Data Restore: What are the 3 data recovery options?

Data recovery involves different phases. Do you need some help to get your data back, or do you want to know more about data recovery? The recovery options entail different types of backup deployed by the users. It is essential to determine how long the process will take and whether it will succeed or fail.

There are skills needed in the process of data backup methods, frequency, and type. All of them incur costs when using them. Data recovery mainly relies on logical issues, which consider non-mechanical issues focusing on software issues, while physical recovery focuses on data loss caused by mechanical issues

In this post, I will discuss several data recovery options and what they entail. I shall cover each option and the chances of getting your data back. The guide will also cover some cost estimates of the options. Read on.

Data Restore: What are the 3 data recovery options?

There are several types of data recovery options. The options include the type of data backup used, method, and frequency. They entail different processes and types as follows:

Data Restore: What are the 3 data recovery options?
Type of data backup frequency

We use several frequencies to check the possibility of data recovery during the data recovery process. The type of backup frequency determines how much time you will spend recovering your data.  It includes:

Continuous- This type of backup happens in real-time; every change that occurs on the data by the users gets saved. It is very expensive, and there are no cases of downtime experienced when using this method. When making data recovery and the user uses continuous data backup frequency, it's easier to get the data back.

Daily. When the user uses this type of backup frequency, it takes up to 8 hours to get back. The price is moderate, and the chances of getting your data back are very high.

Weekly. It happens after every 5 days. It can take the specialists up to twelve hours to get the data back when using this frequency. The cost is a bit cheap, but it's not efficient compared to the daily frequency mode.

Monthly. It is very cheap and not a suitable frequency for data backup. When using it, you may find troubles during the data recovery process.

Type of data backup

Several data backups depend on the number of tapes used. The types include:

Full backup- It usually takes a long period during the backup process. It uses less tape and can waste much time during the backup period. It's one of the best since it takes less time to recover data.

Incremental backup-It uses moderate time to back up data and moderate tape. It is not the best for data backups since it can take more time during the data recovery.

Differential backup-It takes less time compared to the full backup. It performs better than incremental backup during the data recovery process.

Type of Data Backup Method

Data Restore: What are the 3 data recovery options?

There are many types of data backup methods. Most of them use different techniques to get the job done. They include:

Tape backup involves copying data from the primary storage device to tape cartridges, where data recovery can occur in case of crash or failure. You can do it manually or automatically by programming it using the appropriate software. When using this method, it takes the longest time during data recovery, and it's less expensive.

Data replication-It involves taking different data and making copies of the same data and later storing them in different locations where you can retrieve them during data recovery. It has medium costs and time. It works for both computers and servers. Any changes that occur in the original data reflect on the original data.

Disk shadowing-It is the process of maintaining different sets of identical disk images by saving them on separate disk services. It improves reliability and ensures you can access the secondary storage by providing many paths because of the data redundancy. This method leads to faster data recovery during data loss.

Disk mirroring involves duplicating data by writing them to different identical hard drives. It helps in data loss scenarios, where one can retrieve data from other mirrored hard disks. This method is suitable, and it promotes fast data recovery. It uses medium costs.

Electronic vaulting. It is a type of data backup method that the data gets transmitted electronically to secure location storage which is usually offsite.  It is costly and takes a long time to get your data back.
Storage virtualization. It is the process of using a logical view by grouping different physical storage from different storage devices that arises from the network, making it look like one storage device. It is very expensive and leads to faster data recovery.

Storage area network-It involves the use of high-speed internet or network to provide access to better storage. They mainly access storage devices like tape libraries and disk arrays using different servers.
Remote mirroring. It is a method of data replication that occurs between two storage. It is costly and takes a long time during recovery.

Phases of Data Recovery

There are different phases of data recovery. They include:

  1. Doing a hard drive repair to bring it in good form and read the data from it.
  2. Try getting a disk image file that ensures you get a secondary copy of the data, and you can transmit it to another device.
  3. Recovery of the necessary files, partitions, file systems, and MBR.
  4. Perform a repair of all the files you retrieved during the process. When you construct your data, you make it readable. There are also higher chances of getting your corrupt files back.

Different types of data recovery software

Data Restore: What are the 3 data recovery options?

1. Data Recovery Software. Data recovery software is a computer program to recover lost files from hard drives, memory cards, USB flash drives, and other storage devices. These programs allow users to scan their computers for deleted files, corrupted documents, and damaged pictures.

2. File Recovery Software. File recovery software is similar to data recovery software, except that it focuses on recovering specific file types instead of general files. Examples of file types include Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, MP3 music files, and JPEG images.

3. Disk Repair Software. Disk repair software is data recovery software that scans disks for errors and repairs them if possible. Standard disk repair tools include Norton Ghost and Acronis True Image.

4. System Repair Software. System repair software is a type that scans a computer's system settings and makes changes to improve performance. Examples of system repair tools include CCleaner and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

5. Photo Recovery Software. Photo recovery software is a file recovery software that recovers digital photographs from damaged or formatted drives. Examples of photo recovery tools include iSkysoft PhotoRec and Wondershare PhotoRec.

6. Video Recovery Software. Video recovery software is a type that recovers videos from damaged or formatted drives, including DVDs and VHS tapes. Examples of video recovery tools include iSkySoft DVD Decrypter and Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate.

7. Music Recovery Software. Music recovery software is designed to recover audio files from damaged or formatted drives such as CDs and MP3 players. Examples of music recovery tools include iSky Soft CD Ripper and Wondershare Audio Recorder.
