What You Need to Get Started

Casting Your Windows or Android Display to a Windows 11 Computer

During the installation of Windows 11, you will be prompted to link your smartphone. If you didn't already, we'll walk you through the steps and point out some important details before you get started.

There is a crucial prerequisite of downloading an app from the Google Play Store called Link to Windows(Opens in a new window) on your phone and signing into it with the same Microsoft account you're using on your computer. This program comes factory-installed on several mobile devices. There is no need for concern on the computer side of things, as the Phone Link software is already installed on all Windows 11 computers.

Moreover, the phone needs to be within Bluetooth or WiFi range of the computer, as the apps themselves are still being run on the phone even though the display and control are being handled by the computer.

More specifically, Android 7 or later is required for Android-to-Windows 11 capabilities. Any computer running Windows 11 will do. We utilized a Surface Laptop 3 and a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra to test the configuration. In terms of practicality, the mobile version trumps the computer version.

Microsoft has made it easier to synchronize phones with their latest version. You may connect your mobile device to Windows 10 with the help of an app called Link to Windows, and there's a program called Phone Link that you can install on your computer. In the past, only some Samsung phones and the Surface Duo could connect to Windows using Link to Windows(Opens in a new window) (some Honor models were recently added for users in China). More features, like as the ability to mirror Android apps on a PC, are being added to those models. This should not be confused with Windows 11's much-touted ability to run Android apps, in which the apps themselves run on the PC hardware.

In conclusion, the Link to Windows system may be installed on numerous PCs for the same phone, making it suitable for use whether you're at home on a desktop computer or on the go with a laptop.
